Samhain Gathering - Day of Dead - Halloween

Got together with the Coven the other night to scry (a practice that's common in many different societies this time of year; considering how various cultures believe the veil between the living and the dead grows thinnest around November 1st).

For scrying, we did:

1. Tea leaf reading
2. Mirror scrying
3. Bowl scrying (filled bowl with water, dropped wax from a burning candle into the water and read the results - very much like tea leaf reading)
4. Had crystal ball available and other scrying devices
5. Ouija

It was a powerful night -- especially with the Ouija. At first a buch of silliness ensued and we laughed a lot. Then my dad came through with a message. Another member's dog also spelled a loving statement through the board.

We burned scrying incenses and drank intuitive tea. *All in all, a very powerful night.*

Modern Technology And Generational Disparity

So I take my 77-year-old mother out to breakfast inside a busy restaurant this morning. We start talking about nostalgic things. I'm saying stuff like: "Remember how back in the 1970s -- old people used to complain about young people my age not relating to them? There was also a big emphasis in the media about generational disparity back then. Young people supposedly could not relate to the old and visa versa."

Mom says: "Yeah."

So I say: "Well, today that generational disparity thing is much worse because modern technology has completely changed how people relate to one another. I look at today's youth and realize how they have never had to stand in line waiting to use the telephone. Everything's instantaneous for them. Nobody knows what a "party line" is anymore" (For any young person reading this: a party line was where two or three households might share the same phone line. A resident in one house would typically wait for the other household to get off the phone before they could even make a call. If one household was really deviant, they could listen in on the other household's phone conversations too.) "Not only does every household have its own phone line these days, but every family member typically has their own cel phone. Nobody has to wait for anything. The old system taught us social skills and the need for patience and good manners."

My aging mother says: "I can't hear you."

So I lean in closer because the restaurant is full and there's all sorts of background noises. "Take your great grandnephew, whose sitting to next to me here. Through this entire conversation he's been playing that hand-held electronic game and hasn't heard a single word we're saying."

Then Mother says, "Oh. There! I hear you now Mat."
(This whole time I've been talking, she's been connected to a phone conversation with my brother via her blue tooth/ear bud.)

WRITER'S FINGERS DRIP BLOOD ONTO PAGES!

Author Tami Jackson (drawn here) seemed pretty sane when she first started her research for the vampire novel "Ravena & The Resurrected."
Rumor has it she earned her fangs while getting dirty in Seattle's historic ruins (also known as the condemned parts of the Seattle underground system). Now the author walks about like other creatures of the night -- writing until 2 and 3 in the morning. (Some say her typing fingers drip with as much blood as the book's pages)!

http://vamchoir.blogspot.com/ is main character Ravena Doomlah's blog. Beware if you decide to go there -- for vampires, werewolves, zombies and deviant Faeries lurk about!
